The European “WatSavereuse” project to reduce tourists’ overall water consumption whilst on holiday.

Preverisk Group collaborated on the European project 'Wat'Savereuse', to raise the tourism sector’s awareness with regards to saving and reusing water and promoting a circular economy regarding water consumption.

This initiative was created and coordinated by the Euroregion Pyrenees Mediterranean (EPM), with the participation of the Agencia Balear del agua (Balearic Water Agency) and “Aetib” the Agencia de Estrategia Turística de Baleares (Tourism Strategy Agency of the Balearic Islands) assisting in its development.

Wat'Savereuse's main objective was to highlight the benefits of water reuse and additionally the opportunities this presents for the tourism sector, by implementing initiatives which promote a circular economy, based on the reduction of water consumption.

The project aimed to help alleviate the problem of water scarcity and drought, by way of campaigns to raise awareness for the reduction of overall water consumption by tourists (during their hotel stays) by at least 10%. It also aimed to raise awareness amongst interested parties in the tourism industry and encourage them to implement solutions and strengthen collaboration between public administrations and large hotel chain operators, to reduce the global consumption of fresh water by 30%.

OUR MISSION: To conduct surveys amongst tourists and hoteliers in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands regarding visitors and tourism accommodations perception, practices, consumption, saving and reusing of water. Then to compile a report giving survey results and main conclusions.
