RISKNOVA: The Evolution of Audit and Control Systems in the Tourism Sector

Risk management increasingly requires a greater capacity for anticipation. In a global sector, with operations spread across multiple destinations and high compliance standards, the challenge is no longer simply to collect information, but to interpret it and turn it into useful knowledge for better decision-making.

With this purpose in mind, RISKNOVA was created: an applied research project promoted by Preverisk to develop an intelligent predictive risk analysis engine for safety, health and sustainability in tourist accommodation.

The project is based on the advanced processing of Preverisk’s historical data: a knowledge base built from more than 140,000 audits carried out in 89 countries over the last 10 years, covering 34 risk areas. This information represents a strategic asset for identifying patterns, understanding recurring behaviours and moving towards smarter prevention models.

Turning experience into predictive knowledge

RISKNOVA aims to transform historical audit data into a tool capable of providing a forward-looking view of risk. It is not merely about analysing what has already happened, but about using that learning to identify signals that can help prevent future situations.

One of the project’s main objectives is to build an intelligent and explainable predictive model. To achieve this, RISKNOVA does not simply work with large volumes of data; it focuses on identifying which variables genuinely have the capacity to anticipate each type of risk.

A technical and strategic challenge

Preverisk’s historical data comes from audits conducted over many years across different countries, formats and operational contexts. Turning this heterogeneous information into a structured, consistent and useful database for predictive analysis is one of the project’s major challenges.

The project is not limited to processing data; it seeks to understand which factors are relevant, how they relate to one another and how they can contribute to more preventive risk management.
