Preverisk Group was one of the main sponsors of the “Delivering Sustainable Tourism” event which took place at Deloitte's offices in the City of London, on Wednesday 2nd March. It was an event which participants could attend either in person, or by connecting remotely. At long last, after almost 2 years without any “in person” events, it finally felt as if such gatherings for professionals in the tourist sector, had returned to some normality.
The theme of the day was “sustainability in tourism”. This began from a more global perspective and ended with concrete practical examples, such as those presented by our company President and Technical Director, Dr Esteban Delgado along with Laia Cases from Eurecat, regarding the WAT’SAVEREUSE project. They presented the project’s principle conclusions, including an analysis of water saving awareness amongst tourists and hoteliers in Catalonia.
It was an honor to be on the panel, alongside professionals such as Clare Jenkinson (ABTA’s Head of Sustainability), Emily Cromwell (Deloitte’s Director of Sustainability), Dirk Glaesser (UNWTO’s Director for the Sustainable Development of Tourism), Andy Jefferson (Sustainable Aviation Programme Director), Linden Coppell (MSC Cruises’ Director of Sustainability), Hugh Felton (ABTA’s Senior Sustainable Tourism Executive) and Alistair Pritchard (Deloitte’s Lead Partner for Travel & Aviation) amongst others.
These were the main conclusions from the event:
The importance of communication (to make known plans and progress, so that everyone understands them and how to help).
It was certainly an event with well-known speakers in the field of sustainability in the tourism industry. A lot was learnt and communication will continue, with the aim of achieving more sustainable tourism.
